I'm just wondering because if in the gameplay footage (when the chompy mage is a boss) he turns into a mega magma chompy, then what about when we play as him? We know he turns into a mega chompy, but what if we can upgrade him to become mega magma chompy? It would be nice to upgrade villains.

I'm pretty sure someone said no and the moves you see when you fight them as a boss is what you get to play as

It would not make logical sense for them to lose ability just because you trapped them?

I doubt there will be any upgrade path for the villains, but it IS possible. Until we hear something official I guess this one is open for guessing.

In this video, around 35-40 seconds in, you can see Snap Shot.
He has a health bar
Level-up bar
Coin counter

Then, fast-forward to 5:22
Chompy Mage:
He has a health bar (basically the same health as a Level 15 Snap Shot)
that's it -- so, looks like no leveling or money for Mr. Mage
BUT -- in the middle, you can still see a picture of Snap Shot, plus you see his level counter and coin counter
My guess -- coins your villain gets add to your character's bank.
Less sure guess -- possibly, Villain experience gathered COULD be applied to your tag teamers level counter.

Some demos i saw they would play the trapped figure and their would be still a skylander on the portal so it's possible all exp goes to the skylander which is sort of neat.

That's another way of saying that the toy with the RFID on the portal gets the benefits of the on screen character--regardless of who it is. In reality the code is simply adding it to the RFID of whomever is on the portal. The on screen character means nada other than the action of saving the updated XP/Gold is done as usual to the character with the RFID.

"These villains not only offer special powers but can also be upgraded, as was confirmed at the announcement event. It’s unclear how this upgrade is achieved although I suspect these upgrades may come from particular Traps used to collect each one."

This is also the same article that mentions that 25 is likely the max cap without confirming with the vendor. Another article has confirmed that the XP max cap is going to be 20.

Bottom line---things seem a little meshy; I wouldn't doubt it if many of these facts change again before we go live. I get the sense that the developers are actually trying to figure this stuff out now. Yikes. Either that or our reporters are taking a lot of liberties with their comments, which isn't obviously going to help.

Around 6:45 he said that he cannot talk about it at the time, giving the illusion it might be possible. They could do it so that the skylander on the portal buys the villains upgrades. Also ^There are not going to be 4 villains in one trap.

They are probably gonna have the same moves that they fought with.

That is my point. If in the game the chompy mage can summon more than 2 chompies when he is fighting you, why is it that in the gameplay footage he can only summon 2. Also, if as a boss he can turn into a mega magma chompy, why in the gameplay demo, can he only turn into a mega chompy? Also, in the video above, he says that he is not at liberty to answer any questions about upgrades for villains. I am just saying, it may be possible that villains will be getting upgrades.

There could be one big problem, with villains:
if, when fought, are too powerful, they might be op, when becoming playable.
Still, if made too weak as bosses, they could be less fun to defeat.
I'm guessing some moves aren't available, when you play as them...

In this video, the Skylander dad says you CAN upgrade villains, but it will be a different process than a normal skylander.
