Swap Force has taken hard core collectors out of the equation [CLOSED]

Not sure if there will be any hard core collectors anymore. To me a hard core collector has every available figure on display. Now with this swap feature that is 256 figures alone right there. I would consider Wash Buckler and Blast Zone to be figures and you have to also consider Blast Buckler and Wash Zone as figures since all 4 are different in the game. You can have just the 16 swap force figures but you would not be able to display the complete 256 figures. Wow, this gives me a headache just thinking about it.

Ha! That is a fair point! It also means that people who like to keep their 'landers in packaging wouldn't be able to do the old switch-a-roo on their 'landers unless they got two of each, one for display and one for actually using.

^im sure you posted that just to get a response from people. But it would seem to me that the collectin of what, 16 of each figure if that's quick math in my head correct, would be relatively pointless because you would have to open the packaged figures to do it. Leaving them in the package would serve no true purpose because they would only equal the ability to make all the combos in hand , however only having one of each figure would technically allow you to do the same.

So does that mean to own just the 16 figures to be able to make all the combinations or to actually have all 256 combinations just not on display but in a storage box.

LOL @ the thought of "collecting" 16 of each swap character so you could have 256 on display.

$15 a piece = $240 of Wash Bucklers?

I think I'd faint if my kid proposed $240 of Wash Bucklers to me...

Re poses mean nothing to me and my collection. As long as I have one of every character that exists i consider myself pretty hard core. Displaying the same figure over and over only looking slighty different means nothing to me. And as far as the swap guys go...I'll display them how they come in the package. I dont need them all switched around in every possible combination. I'll still consider myself as having them all. Im too poor for all these reposes. Those are more for people who missed the first sets.

To me the Swap figures are still individual characters....they are the Giants of this game, that just gives you the option to swap parts on them. No need to display them that way. If I did own any of them that I liked, chances are I may try a swap to check out the feature, but overall I'd probably not even swap them and keep them as is.

Yeah, I don't see why anyone would need to have all 256 combinations on display. Yeah, it'd look freaking awesome... but wouldn't be necessary to have a complete collection.

Someone just needs to design an in-wall display where you can spin the top and bottom to mix and match them. smilie

How long once the figures are released before we see "half a figure" or even "mixed" Swap Force's being sold on eBay? Whether they are the top or the base of the figures, I'm sure people are going to scalp these in the full 256 combinations possible!

Should be interesting...

I foresee buying characters "halves" as appealing more to the groups that do custom work to the figures, be it repainting or articulating them. People on eBay will try and sell anything, so it'll happen.

Now if the Swap-Force characters have splitting attack paths like the regular characters, depending on if its tied to both parts of the character or just one half might promote the sale of separate halves.

with 16 swapforcers, it seems likely the movement types will be duplicated. That is, 2 different characters will have each type. I doubt you would need 2 Blast Zones to do the flying mini game, but just Blast Zone and whichever other Swapper has the rocket legs type.

You would if they don't release them both together, which I don't imagine they would. You could just go to one playerto do that zone though and the second player can jump back in once it's done. Not ideal but not anything to get in a tizz about.

I do have some new info regarding my current collection. I have 3 Ninjini's on the way, and it didn't cost me an arm and a leg. It costed, but nowhere near what they're going for on Ebay.

I also have a Stone Whirlwind, Zook, and Glitter Hot Head on the way. So, the variant collecting for Giants has commenced. I should have them all over the course of the next couple of months.

I will probably just have to sit them up on my desk or something. Once I get a bigger house and room, or if I can have a builder design a room big enough to tailor to my collections, then that's when you're going to see some serious ****.

Why do people think that 256 figures will be anywhere close to a full set of all the possibilities?

Sure, that'll be a full "base" set, but you're forgetting variants - and the fact that a variant could be for either the upper OR lower part of a Swap Force character. Different stores and different systems could have different exclusives, too.

Wal-Mart could offer a Glow-in-the-Dark option for just the "Wash," while Target might give a metallic "Buckler". An iOS starter might have "Royal Blast Zone," where as the 3DS version could have "Blast Dark Zone." Toys 'R Us could offer a "Legendary" figure with BOTH halves being visually different than the normal character.

Even if the only variants ever released were those four "partial" and one full character, a full display set just went from 256 to 361.

Most likely, a hardcore player/collector would buy two of each figure (one to keep boxed, one to open and use for mix-and-match play) and design some sort of wall poster to display every possible combination they COULD have from the matching.

#47 Posted: 08:25:18 08/02/2013
there were only a few Giants variants (Gnarly Tree Rex, Scarlet Ninjini, Legendary Bouncer, Granite Crusher) so I don't think there will be many SWAP variants and since they are sold as a complete character (top and bottom) it would be absurd for a variant to only be on half the character.

Having 50% of the Giants with variants isn't exactly "few," it just means there weren't many Giants to begin with.

If 50% of the Swap Force characters have full (top and bottom) variants, you'd be up to 576 possible combinations.

As for half-characters, I expect they'll dedicate certain features to the top or the bottom. Like "Legendary" being a top-half attribute and "Lightcore" being a bottom half, so if you buy them both, you could have Legendary Lightcore Stink Bomb. (The remaining halfs of both character could be combined to form a normal Stink Bomb.)

All things considered, it STILL feels more like they made a Megaman X Collectable Figure Game and not a Skylanders sequel. smilie

not just unlikely, but absurd. they sell complete characters, so a Legendary Stink Bomb would be Legendary Stink and Legendary Bomb, the question really becomes "what happenes when you combine Legendary Stink with Blue Buckler (from the Blue Wash Buckler variant)? Do you thn get Legendary Blue Stink Buckler?

I think they will mostly avoid SF variants for this reason, and leave those for the newlanders and S3s
