Just as an FYI: rechargeable batteries are amazing versus regular alkaline but, unfortunately, you get what you pay for. You really want to look for Eneloop or Pre-Charged Duracell batteries. These batteries will retain 80% or more of their charge over a year. Also, unfortunately, most rechargers are crap and nearly all "fast rechargers" will decrease the maximum mAmps of rechargeables significantly. I'd highly recommend looking on Amazon for a good recharger from LaCrosse or another comparable company.

I have 8 Eneloop batteries which last me 30% longer than Alkaline (2000mAmps vs 1500mAmps) cycled in to my two Wii remotes for over three years now with literally 100s of hours of gameplay; to give you some idea.

Just got eneloop rechargeables for the portal and Wiimotes after researching the best rechargeables. Glad I won't be buying more batteries, cuz we were on our 4th set since Christmas in the portal.

Xbox version doesn't need batteries!
I laugh at your misfortune. HAHA.

I laugh at your misfortune of having to stretch a 12 foot wire across the living room, yeah, my cats would love to attack that.

Try rubbing some sand paper on the contacts inside the battery compartment. It might work, as bad contact with batteries can cause resistance which causes heat, which is lost energy. QED batteries go flat fast.

Batteries just suck, period. What I do is use the 3DS Portal with my PS3 game. Although it's smaller, it has what the PS3 Portal does not; A USB PORT. Pic related. You can even use the same cord that powers the PS3 controller!

When I put a Skylanders on the portal the light doesn't always correspond to the proper element. Could this be a battery problem?
