Toys'R'Us Buy 2 Get 1 Free (No Spoilers) [CLOSED]

That's right. The Toys'r'us I went to had a buy 2 get one free (for equal or lesser value) on all video games and accessories. Not sure if they knew what they were doing when they put this sign next to Skylanders toys, but sure enough, it worked. I walked in only planning on buying the two adventure packs and two single characters. I ended buying all of the characters they had which was all of them except Whirlwind and Drill Sergeant for $112 minus the game. I bought the game at Best Buy. The regular price for all of these would have been $168.

I was gonna buy the two adventure packs anyway, but when I discovered that deal, I realized I could get the legendary three pack (Which I was originally not going to buy anyway) for free. Unfortunately, this Toys'r'us didn't have any other 3 Packs of characters. But this was a blessing in disguise as the 3 for 2 deal allowed me to buy any three characters (instead of a predetermined 3) for the price of 2, which is $16 plus tax--still cheaper than the original three packs.

So, I ended up getting every character. And I now have all of them with the exception of Drill Sergeant and Dark Spyro. (Of the ones you can get, anyway.)

Also, they gave me a complimentary Skylanders poster at checkout, which, by the way, is a lot larger than I expected.

The store I went to was in Cedar Hill, TX.

If you can manage to walk into a Toys'r'us, I'd recommend you give them a look. Online shopping only gets you part of the deal.

I got the legendary 3 pack and the darklight crypt adventure pack (cuz ghost roaster looks cool) then grabbed a sonic boom for my wife. yay buy 2 get 1 free.
we then drove a mile down the road and snagged a whirlwind from Target. We have not purchased the game yet but didn't want to miss the chance to get the exclusive figures

I looked online, and the deal was online.

I was thinking of getting the legendary pack (my brother wants Chop Chop, so I may as well get the stronger one), Zap, and Drobot. But the legendary pack isn't available for store pickup, forcing me to drag myself to shelf, and with my head hung low due to self esteem issues, buy it on the spot instead of running to the store and them handing it to me in a brown bag that nobody can see through.

Dude, you just need to get over it. No one cares that you're buying these things. Besides, if you are going to hoody up and carry everything in a brown paper bag, people will start thinking you're selling drugs or something.

I bought the figures from TRU, since there were 3 packs I wanted to buy (not including Whirlwind). TRU had a huge selection, the pegs were full and about half of the aisle was Skylanders.

On an unrelated note, that brick wallpaper they have in their Skylander section is awesome.

You should not feel worried, but if so just say its a Bday Present for someone younger or somthing. Just becuase the game is aimed at a younger audience does not mean that only kids play it. Look at Pokemon for example, I think more teens and Adult play that then kids these days.

Looked at the offer. Saw it was online. Saw that the shipping was too expensive.

I'm just going to suck it up and go into the store sometime this week. I'll buy the Legendary pack (for Chop Chop and Bash), Zap, and get Drobot for free.

In order to get a character you want, you have to get the pack they belong too, right? I haven't paid enough attention.

Not really. Most toys are available separately.

But certain toys like the legendary toys have to be bought in a 3 pack.

#14 Posted: 21:48:33 17/10/2011
Oooh, thank you. That had been confusing me, I'm glad you don't have to get them in a pack. And how much are the toys themselves?
CAV Platinum Sparx Gems: 6253
#15 Posted: 21:50:15 17/10/2011
The toys themselves are $8.

The 3 packs are $20.

So it's technically a better deal to get the 3 packs, since you save money.

Alright, thanks! I just don't want any extra characters I'd never use anyway and go to waste, so I'm not sure which way I'll go
CAV Platinum Sparx Gems: 6253
#17 Posted: 21:54:51 17/10/2011
^That's why I won't really be bothering with the 3 character packs.

One character I like, and 2 that I don't. Why bother? And even then, it's still a better deal then buying the toys separately.

Sell the ones you don't want for a profit, online or off.

I probably will buy them seperately.

Good idea, but would it even be worth it though, if they're only $8.00 in the first place? I don't really think so

As expected, I had favorites going into this game, and some of them are still my favorite, like Drobot. But I have new favorites now that I have had a chance to play as them, like Stump Smash.

^I have favorites as well. They are still my favorites. And chances are they will be the only toys I get.

As far as I'm concerned, all I care about is getting one from each element. From there, any toy I get is my choice.

But if I sold them for more than they're originally sold, who would buy them? I know you can't get the pack characters anywhere else alone, but still, people would see it's overcharging, don't you think?
CAV Platinum Sparx Gems: 6253
#24 Posted: 22:11:46 17/10/2011
^Gullible people would buy them.

And of course, you can sell them on eBay, where people have to bid on the item, which would therefore raise the price of the item and give you a profit.

Think of it this way:

There are other people like you, who want only one character from the 3 packs, right?

An individual toy costs $8, and a 3 pack costs $20.

So, you sell the toys you don't want for, say, $11 each.
This way, other players will buy your toys, because, although the toys normally cost $8 alone, $11 for one toy you actually want is better than spending $20 on one character you want and two you'll never use. This way, other players will be attracted to your offer, and therefore, buy it, and you would make a profit.

Some people may look at it from a future standpoint. Perhaps someone isn't willing to buy all of the available characters now, but they want to buy them all eventually. Buying the three packs would seem more logical in this position because once you buy them, you'll never have to worry about them.

If I buy flameslinger as an individual, it's possible I may want the other two he comes with in a three pack, which I believe is Stump Smash and Drobot. If you later decide to buy the other two characters, you may want to wait to get flameslinger, so that you can get all of them, and so that you don't waste $4 more than what it would have been if you'd bought them in the three pack.

This process changes completely though, if you check out the buy 2 get 1 free deal at Toys'r'us. And chances are, several promotions are going to happen for these characters. They want you to buy them, so let them convince with a sale price.

I took advantage of this once already, and will hit it up again this Friday.

Also those purchases go towards their $100 Skylanders promotion. If you spend $100 before 12/24/2011 you will get a certificate for a free character.

That does seem like the smart idea. Though what if one doesn't want all the toys that come in the three packs, and doesn't care much for the adventure packs either?

This is my case. Besides, I don't have $40, so I'm forced to get one pack, and two separate toys.

Of course, its up to the person. I'm just saying... Don't be surprised if a character you could care less about now happens to be on your wish list within a few months.

Also, don't feel too bad about having to get the same character twice. If you have a friend or sibling you play with often enough, it may be worth getting the second character for same-character battles. Otherwise, you can't pick the same character twice for battle mode if you only have one. And the legendaries are a better version than the regulars so its not necessarily the same for them.

I'd personally rather have neither.

To me, the Life element is a mess, and the only character I have any slight interest in is Stealth Elf.
