A Skylanders preview was hosted by a South African game distributor, Megarom, in a showcase, with Spyro being the character shown on the Wii version of the game:

http://www.el33tonline.com/pas...nture__preview/

"During a recent showcase presentation event held by South African game distributor Megarom, attendees were treated to a demonstration of the Wii version of Skylanders: Spyro’s Adventure and we were able to glimpse the game’s colourful world and characters, snippets of gameplay and witness a live demonstration of its innovative use of physical action figures in-game. More on this a little later.

Like any action adventure game starring a headline character, in Skylanders: Spyro’s Adventure you take control of Spyro the Dragon, and after a personality-filled, fully voiced introduction explaining to you, the player, what your next objective is in this part of the Skylanders world (suspended in the sky with puffy white clouds surrounding the structures and ‘land’ you traverse), you’re able to move Spyro around and breathe fire (like all good dragons can).

There are naturally enemies to flame, platforms to jump onto, levels to explore, obstacles to navigate and puzzles to solve, all while viewing the action from a roving third-person, top-down perspective.

The visuals of Skylanders: Spyro’s Adventure are immediately striking, and as this demonstration was running on the Wii, immediate comparisons could be made to the graphical richness of a game like Super Mario Galaxy – the world is vibrant with colour, detail and animation. The environment is destructible (in limited ways that make sense) and although the levels follow a more linear progression path, the scenery seems very ‘large-scale’ as it stretches out into the distance, effectively instilling the adventure with an epic feeling.

Water flows beautifully, plants sway, particle and environment effects burst and flitter through the levels, shadows are in place and small touches are in abundance. The world of Skylanders is impressive indeed (dare I say it), especially for the Wii."

Sounding a bit better than before...until I saw the Adventure Pack concept.... smilie
That's right, we have to buy even MORE toys to get the actual levels... smilie

But that distributor is called Megarom.....hmm....

You’re right to think that Skylanders: Spyro’s Adventure seems like a bit of a money-grabbing title, requiring players to buy their way through the game by collecting more action figures and level replicas to get the most out of it, but if you consider that the game is aimed at a younger market (which may or may not be fond of catching ‘em all), the conceit takes on a whole new magical layer. Also, is this any different to paid downloadable content? Only this PDLC is physical!

Finally, someone gets it!

If you wanna get techno-logical, digitally distributed data is always better than physically distributed data.

But at the end of the day, it's no different from paid DLC.

Nope, it's a lot different actually. You'd be suprised with how much longer it takes to load streamed data, as opposed to data installed on the console's memory.

But I don't like the idea of buying a bunch of toys to play my game. Clutter'll be had...

Not exactly. You've seen the gameplay footage, and it was also said here that the character appears exactly when the toy is placed on the portal. No loading.

It'll be a different story with the levels.

And again, the toys need cold storage, and digital content doesn't (half joking).

Sooo... Stil confused. Do we need to buy ALL the toys, or just one from each element to get all the areas and unlockables?

You buy character toys, and you need at least one character of each element to access every area.
But then, there are also those "replica" toys, which represent a themed area. Place these replicas on the portal, and you will unlock a completely new world.

Wow, this game reminds me of something that also had lots of plugins, that ended up failing.

What was it... Sega Genesis, That thing started nice, then after the third add-on without a new release, and the release of the PS1... You get what I am saying, I hope.
All the extras seem to be getting a little out of hand. PDLC generally is more then 1 map, or 1 character...

Look at the Portal 2 DLC, that is a new game in itself.

Actually, the article mentioned that the toys would be sold in packs of 3

And how many did it say there were all together? Basically about a tenth of the whole then... If they had made 33 characters, selling in three would be logical.

There are 32 altogether, 16 at release, and 16 more in 2012, until further notice.

I remember that coming from a very unreliable article that said stuff we already knew was true was false. To be honest, this article on Megarom and the original article on USA Today have been the most reliable. However, until we here something from Activision I'm not going to trust the separate release for half of the toys.

As I said, that's just until futher notice. I'm not going to deem it as true, but it's the only number we have been given so far.

Activision is one of the distributors Megarom supports.

I sent them an email about them uploading the Skylanders video they described about in the article on the web, and they said when the video becomes available to them, they will post it up on their youtube and facebook.
