One anecdote he would mention is talking to guys on the porch that would suddenly stop talking, stare at black families passing by the neighborhood, and then act like nothing happen and continue talking afterwards.
I live in New Orleans so it's obviously not that lol.
But the racism and liberal economic views are pretty common in poor white areas. I used to live in rural Georgia and it was similar there. Poor whites are okay with safety nets if they're only for other poor whites.
