Like Random Thoughts I guess, but like, deeper. Write whatever deep/existential thing is on your mind, or come here whenever something like that pops up in your head.

Every time I think something nowadays, I always end up wondering, is that really what I think, or was I just conditioned to think that?

your first initial thought is what you were conditioned to think, whatever thought comes afterawards is what you really think. like say for example, johnny see's someone whose a different and his first thought is caution. however, he gives himself a mental slap on the wrist and tells himself not to think like that. unfortunately, a lot of people don't that second thought and they stick to what they were conditioned to think.

human behaviors that we claim are "innate" are often influenced by culture. at least id like to think so

Ohhh Thunder can you give an example? Don't know if it's related but I saw a documentary on how humans see colours, and other cultures have a harder/easier time differentiating certain colours than westerners. The way we perceive colour is apparently affected by the culture we were bought up in! So there may be some merit to your thought, considering colours are influenced by culture? |

Potentially?? I have no idea, I don't remember the documentary so much and I don't think they fully understood the reason why, other than just being in a different society? *thunkful emoji*

i dunno... i dont necessarily have any scientific backing! lemme try to write something coherent. this is something that ive thought about but have never put into words! i just see a lot of social behaviors that people do and claim are in their nature. but really, they're passed on from generation to generation. for example, speech patterns, accents, gestures, and favorite foods. the whole thing about if you constantly yell at your kid, they're likely to yell at their own -- even if they hated being yelled at. i feel like as little kids, we're really subject to the patterns of whoever we're around. we pick them up, and often repeat them without thinking. ive heard that the language we speak can influence our thought patterns. like, as in thinking in "words" as opposed to "emotions/not words". (https://www.wnycstudios.org/po...des/91725-words -- i think this link has a podcast that goes more in-depth on it. i heard it a couple of years ago. lets hope its topical). also i think this was brought up in the movie "the arrival". despite being about aliens and stuff. i think these behaviors are part of culture instead of inherently being part of human brain structure. some things, we can't function without, like eating or breathing. but social connections or clothing we could technically live without in the right environment. i think culture forms around needed behaviors. but again, cultural bloat happens; once you have clean food, is it really necessary to get in a group and pray over it to make it safe to eat? part of why i think that also stems from personal experience. ive had to relearn and unlearn things. if certain behaviors like "being the leader" are automatically programmed into us, how can someone connect with a ton of people one moment and totally not understand another group the next? i think what i would want to see is how human culture develops in areas isolated from the outside world. what would be the same? what would be different? if humans popped into existence in another planet, how would their behavior differ from earth humans? ------- enjoy my mini essay! of course as i learn new things, my thoughts are subject to change. i hope none of this has been offensive to anyone! i knew i was a little crazy, but now you all get to experience that too
