Every new Sonic thing becomes as memetically infamous as the last from Big the Cat to Edgy the Hedgy to princess-on-dead-hedghog-romance to long legs, blue arms and bounce pads and so on. But in all seriousness, this speaks to just much Hollywood doesn't care about pop culture icons made outside America because they think they're better. Even if there's merits to some of the movies in their own right, it's clear that top executives, producers and directors pay little attention to seeing what the games, anime, manga and even English children's' books look like.

Whitewashing Asian characters with Hollywood actors in Dragonball, Ghost in the Shell and Avatar (even though that one is western-based), Super Mario Bros. The Movie being... what it is and that Peter Rabbit movie that came out this year, which feels far removed from its roots. Before you say Harry Potter and Paddington, they were made by British studio Heyday Films.

This goes beyond Sonic. Hell, this goes beyond video games as a source material.

I'm with you. One of my biggest concerns is that they're going to whitewash Sonic instead of bringing in a hedgehog and painting it blue.

Like I said, I kind of prefer this poster to the other ones. At least we actually get to see most of the blue blur. Having just a leg shot was.... creepy. The other poster of Sonic in the shadows was okay, but it didn't reveal much about his design.
