Povestea epică a lui Gethin Glyn Merrifield:

Într-o zi, Gethin a decis să meargă pe o stradă pe care nu se mai dusese până atuncia.
El a mers și-a mers până a vazut niște tufișuri. Gethin a mers printre aceste tufișuri
până a găsit o un coridor de tufișuri care se ducea drept printr-o pădure. Gethin a
parcurs coridorul, a traversat niște tufirșuri țepoase, și a găsit la capătul coridorului
un gard cu o portiță ruginită. Intrând pe portiță și explorând perimetrul, adventurierul
nostru găsește o peșteră. Fără să ezite, curajosul explorator pătrunde în peșteră unde dă
peste un o bilă albastră, putitoare și lucioasă și un bătrân care domicilia în peșteră.
Bătrânul îi povestește lui Gethin povestea bilei albastre, plutitoare timp de 6 ore, dar
povestea este așa de uimitoare încât lui Gethin i se pare că au trecut doar 5 mininute.
După ce ascultă povestea bătrânului, adventurierul nostru se duce acasă unde părinții săi
, socați să-l vadă, îi explică că au trecut 10 zile decând a plecat.
Poliția vine și-l întrebă unde a fost, iar el ei explică că a fost în pădure.
Polițaii îi explică că omorât oameni într-un bar și că tre' să-l bage la pârnaie. Gethin se
urcă în mașina de poliție, dar, uitându-se pe geam, vede o copie exactă a lui facăndu-i cu
mâna și zâmbind. Văzând acest lucru, nenorocosul nostru protagonist exclamă: "Opriți mașina!",
dar polițiștii iî răspund: "Scuze, fiule, dar nu putem să facem asta." Polițaii îl conduc
la tribunal unde judecătorul îi arată tănărului pe sine împușcând într-un bar, dar acesta
explică povestea sa cu pădurea și toate cele. Judecătorul îi explică că n-are nici o cale
de a dovedi că ce spune acesta este adevărat, iar Gethin îi spune că are un martor. Apoi,
Gethin sare pe geamul judecătoriei și fuge la peștera bătrânului. Ajuns acolo, îi explică
bătrânului ce i s-a întâmplat, dar poliția îi găsește. Bătrânul scoate un glock printr-un act
Dumnezeiesc și le zice la polițai că Gethin e inocent. Pentru că bătrânul nu putea să iasă din
peșteră fără a muri, polițaii aduc tot tribunalul în peșteră pentru ca bătrânul să zică povestea
lui Gethin ca martor. Gethin și bătrănul cam încep să piardă cazul, dar fix atunci copia rea a
lui Gethin intră în peșteră și exclamă malefic: "HAHAHAH! EU SUNT CEL CARE A FĂCUT TOTE CELE
RELE, NU EL!" Acționând cu o rapiziciune nemai văzută și foarte pe moment, Gethin scoate un
Kalashnicov dăla 47 și-și ciruiește copia sa malefică. Poliția îi explică că e bine ce-a făcut
întru-un fel, dar să omori oameni e rău ,așa că tot tre' să se ducă la închisoare. Gethin zice
că vrea să fie liber, sau ceva, și scoate un radio cu care comunică cu Armata Siriană să vină
să-l scape. Poliția zice că o armată întreagă e mai periculasă decât un copil așa că se duc să
vadă ce pot să facă să-i opreasă pe aceștea. Gethin peacă din peșteră, da tot îl prinde poliția
și îl duc să-i taie capul cu ghilotina. Înainte de-a-și avea capul tăiat, bătrânul vine și zice
că Gethin e inocent, și după moare. Poliția zice că dacă a murit cineva (bătrânul) n-are sens să
mai omoare și pe Gethin. Gethin se duce la bătrân și zice mersi, dar acesta nu murise și-i zice:
"Mă copile n-am murit." Liber și foarte fericit, Gethin se bucură. Bătrânul îl ia sub aripă ca
să-l învețe pe Gethin calea magică spre a ajunge super erou. Acesta învață și se antrenează 23
de ore pe zi, una are și el nevoie pentru somn. După ce Gethin învață totul, bătrânul zice că
acuma poate să moară că cunoștințele sale au fost transmise generaței următoare. Noul nostru
super erou, Gethin, objectă spunând: "Nu muri, ești singurul meu prieten!", dar bătrânul tot
moare. Supărat de acest fapt, Gethin se duce și omoară mulți oameni, deoarece era supărat și chestii,
dar bătrănul îi apare ca o fantomă și îi zice: "Sunt foarte dezamăgit de tine, Gethin. Puterile tale
n-ar trebui folosite pentru așa ceva!", Gethin, realizând că a făcut ceva rău, omoară toată omenirea
ca să nu mai existe tristețe. Bătrunul zice că merge și că într-un fel e bine.
Din toate acestea, Bătrânul trege o conluzie: "La sfârșitul zilei, scopul chiar scuză mijloacele."
Gethin moare singur și trist.

The conclusion of the novel reveals that Annabel’s public image is in jeopardy. With her deceased husband’s spiteful suicide notes threatening to falsely frame her as willfully ignorant of his suicidal thoughts, and several loose ends (including Dr. Tommasi’s daughter and a woman in the bathroom during the party) making it difficult to properly explain the situation from Annabel’s perspective, Annabel, Billy and Luigi see no other choice than to cover up as much as they can and project an altered narrative in order to protect her reputation. Annabel must try harder than ever before to manipulate her public image to become what is most expected of her. Her desperation to keep the act up—to intricately plan her public grief and the narrative she’s chosen to cover up the suicide—seems to transcend rational human emotion. Billy’s demand for money in exchange for hiding the photocopies made of the suicide notes, however, is enough to snap Annabel out of this distorted fantasy she’s in. Against the advice of those willing to protect her public image, she releases the suicide notes to the magistrate herself, choosing the destruction of her image over maintaining the illusion of control. She feels “neither free or unfree” about her decision, but she knows it is the right one because she describes herself as “entirely satisfied” (142-3). This admission is a new direction for Annabel—while she formerly made decisions based on public reaction, her choice to give up the suicide notes demonstrates that she’s more interested in following her gut, and making decision for herself, not for her image. Blending into the crowd in Greece, too, allows her to be unfree to return to a life of fame and fortune, but free to follow her heart and to choose what’s best for her baby and for herself.
