We set up a bunker in the walk in closet, and have provisions and tools ready in case we get trapped in or something. They ordered an evacuation... but nobody really cares tbh

Where I'm at we're too close to the water to hunker down. We're evacuating and taking the stuff that's most important to us. Hoping for the best and that our house doesn't get damaged.

Make sure you guys pack your stuff in watertight containers. I remember when my dorm room flooded during hurricane Wilma and everything got soaked.

Just was watching the news with my dad, apparently flights are getting cancelled is parts of Florida, best check with your local airports, and if need be, look for ones farther away.

The storm just hit the tropical islands of Puerto Rico, Bermuda, and Costa Rica (which were also in path of the storm). Hoping for the best for them, but several of the Bermuda islands have not come in contact in over 6 hours.

Barbuda Island was almost completely destroyed. Most of their residents are either dead or missing. Approximately 90% of the island is now uninhabitable.

To what I've been reading, there's only been a single confirmed fatality (an infant).

The island is devastated though, and their communications with Antigua were destroyed during the storm, leaving the prime minister completely unaware of the damage as Antigua was largely untouched.

From what I've read the death toll of Irma is still in the single digits. Still not good but it also shouldn't be blown out of proportion. Just follow proper safety procedures and your odds of surviving a hurricane are very high.

In terms of fatalities it must be since all reports I read only claim one fatality (and now two missing).

In terms of damage to buildings and communications however that's all too real unfortunately.

At one beach in Florida, the water has disappeared.


Edit: Pardon, this is in the Bahamas, not Florida. Still interesting and concerning. People on reddit are saying a Tsunami is coming, while others are saying it's not likely. I'm more inclined to believe the latter. I'm not sure how common Tsunamis are with Hurricanes, as it's the Earth itself is what causes them, not high winds.

Eeyup.

The storm hasn't reached here yet, as I live more towards the north of where it is now. (I live in Hernando county) At the moment it's just a tiny bit windy, but nothing more.



At least it's not too bad as of now. I hope you and your family are in a safe area when it comes.

Good luck, MagicFizz. Being a person in the heart of the country as opposed to near the coast, it's so hard for me to comprehend the sheer damage Harvey caused to Texas and what Irma may do to Florida! I feel so awful that all these people are trying their hardest to survive in these times. Please stay safe.

Came back home earlier this week and our property was miraculously untouched. Didn't have wifi for a few days, though, thus why I wasn't able to update.
