It just now occurred to me, but what is the Xbox One version going to replace all the easter eggs referring to Dan Johnson with?

Quote: Sesshomaru75
I imagine that there might be some Ratchet & Clank references in the PS4 version, especially since the trailer directly referenced the R&C Remake trailer. (That, and the R&C Remake referenced Spyro as well)

What's the verdict?

I would keep the Dan Johnson references. Reignited still wouldn't be a thing if Insomniac didn't make them in the first place. I can't think of one reason where getting rid of it would be necessary, really. most people who wouldn't get it, probably wouldn't have understood back then, either, because a lot of kids don't really care who the devs are, honestly. that was an injoke, so...

also, i'd like as many of the references to stay as possible. I won't really care either way, I guess, it would just be neat to keep the heart and personality of the original developers in there somewhere... we'll call it a double reference.

I knew about Speero, but how did the Reignited Trilogy’s trailer referenced Ratchet & Clank’s remake exactly?
Was it because of the montage, or camera angles or music...?

Guess they will keep the majority of the non-Sony easter eggs and simply replace those ones with unrelated or generic ones.
I bet there’ll be at least one Skylanders reference, for example.

Wow, absolutely didn’t remember it.
Nice catch, and nice homage to the original developers, TfB!

Speaking of them, that video I posted in the previous page was released on the 14th of March.
Which means we could have had confirmations about both the developers and the Elders’ designs (not to mention the existence of the remakes themselves) but we instead kept checking if Falcon McBob was about to change its name and go live.

The irony. smilie

The only problem I had with the original games was that the speedway levels had such tight time constraints. One mistake and you automatically lost unless you were ridiculously good. To be fair, the speedways in YOD were better, but that was mostly because they were a bit more linear (less stuff where you have to plan your path based on location and/or the movement of separate sets of targets). The race parts were also fun. Other than that I can't really complain. It was nowhere near my most difficult PS1 experience. That honor goes to the boss battle with King Galaxian in Pac-Man World. I would always die before I could destroy his last eye. I did eventually beat him though, and the rest of the game was easier by far.

Omg I had so much issues with the speedways in Spyro 1. Easily the hardest parts of the game. Spyro 2 were slightly beter, and YOTD's were easy.

I mean, it’s literally in the dev team’s name.

Also, I don’t mind the plasticy feel for him. It fits the cartoony aesthetic more than the realistic fur **** they did for Crash.

Crash’s model itself is fine (except for when it bugs out in Crash 2’s warp room cutscenes), but I don’t think it worked for all of the models in game. Plus, it just reacts poorly to some of the lighting in game and makes everything blend in together sometimes.

I feel bad whining about the N Sane’s visuals cause they’re fine for the most part. I just have these really minor complaints with the visual style that annoy me.

It’s probably because I’m a good artist and can point out these things better than common, non-artistic plebs /s

Those feelings are fair enough, btw. I’m sorry I am bad with words and can’t articulate my points or criticisms as well. I don’t want to come off like a whiner. I do like the Crash Trilogy and I do agree those people that “fix” game screenshots are obnoxious, but I still like expressing my feelings towards things a lot.

Also, sorry for that bad joke. I don’t think I’m better than anyone because of my passion. In fact, I can attest to my absolutely ****ty tastes.
Bifrost Diamond Sparx Gems: 9988
#2119 Posted: 22:29:32 18/04/2018
The lighting ****ing up around Crash's fur is definately a thing.

Spyro lacks scale texture for consistency though, since the enemies also seem to have large spots of just flat color. The grainy look of the Classic model just wouldn't fly nowadays, and the bumps more than help to give the illusion that he's all scales.

I didn't notice it either, just pointing it out for comparison(also because this guy did the models for the bosses so it was an easy pic to bring from the page history). Sometimes it's better to have one flat design that fits anywhere than a complicated one that conflicts with existing assets.

Can’t say much about Ice Cavern from what I can see, except that I really like the colors and the Gnorc’s look.
Wanted to check out its original design and have to say I appreciate small touches like the scarf and goggles

Here it is, for reference:

Would gladly join the discussion about Crash’s “realism”, because I feel like we are starting to see various interesting approaches at remaking videogames, but I’m too tired to do it now.

Personally the one (very specific) detail I miss from the original Spyro design is the powder blue lines running along his tan-is scales. I don't know how the blue could have been translated to a new model though. The blue lines were also only on the in-game model and not in any official art.

From what I understood it was neither unlisted nor private and was published the day after it was uploaded.
I think the problem is that TfB didn’t have a YouTube channel and did nothing to promote its creation, from what I can tell.

They probably didn’t want it to attract too much attention but with how obvious certain hints are (like the “SPYRO” sign or certain enemies’ concept arts) I guess they were surprised literally no one discovered it before the official announcement.
Guess we simply kept looking in the wrong directions.

Good or bad game, the designs are still similar. But it's probably just following similar goofy cartoon principles - especially since the Gnorc has actual teeth while Capital B has serrated flat saws in their place.

I don't know if you two are trolling, but it's sure as hell funny regardless. Yooka-Laylee isn't, "crap", Yooka-Laylee is not "****", and Yooka-Laylee isn't "garbage". Mediocre? sure. Yooka-Laylee isn't a mind blowing or revolutionary game by any means, but shut the **** up about it being a terrible game when there's games like
Miners Adventure Ultra and Fur Fun out there. But if a 1998 game was fun in 1998, I don't see how a 1998 game can't still be fun in 2017.

And the comparison isn't without merit. As Bifrost said, medicore game or not, Yooka-Laylee is still a visually appealing game and has a very appealing artstyle, because if it wasn't, then why were so many people to begin with before the gameplay was reviewed? and I still find it worthy to compare it to show how exciting it is for Spyro, having the bigger budget regardless, was able to translate it's artstyle into the modern era seamlessly just as Yooka-Laylee was able to translate it's 90's RareWare artstlye well too.

I didn't like it from what I saw and I had a meh experience with getting a refund over the WiiU issue, but I wouldn't knock the art style over it. It's still very cute, though it's been 5 years and I still think Yooka would look better with trousers.

One main reason why I didn't enjoy Yooka-Laylee, is that the levels were just way too big, so I'd end up running around for hours not knowing what to do. I probably would've enjoyed it if the levels were smaller, and there were more of them.

Gee, I wonder why Super Mario Odyssey was a better game? It too was a game made on a budget of two million dollars by a team the size of twenty who either had little experience or haven't made a pure 3D Platformer in since 1999, because that's fairly comparable.

Keep your opinions, and I'll respect them the best I can. I can't and shouldn't bother forcing y'all to change or mold your opinions to suite mine, that would be unreasonable. So it's probably best I stop arguing about it in a topic created for news about the Spyro Reignited Trilogy.
