I love how they always manage to surprise me with the Spyro-related announcements.

First I expected a grand reveal at E3 or during the PlayStation Experience for the reveal of the remake itself... Nope, a random day with a couple trailers and some screenshots!

Then today I was fairly confiden they would have showcased the Switch version, except I was expecting it to have a bit more space like Crash did when they announced the various portings but nope again, just a couple seconds of clips in a casual third party titles showcase.

And after that I don’t even have the time to process the news that I find out it has not only been confirmed for PC as well, but he’ll also be a playable character in CTR Nitro Fueled.

WOOOW, what a day for our purple pest (though I guess that with Banjo and Kazooie being in Smash the chances of him and/or Crash hopping along too are quite slim now, but I really can’t complain)! smilie

Speaking of CTR, I’m convinced these have been posted here before, but if these concepts are anything to go by I guess we could see some quite interesting Spyro-themed tracks:

[User Posted Image]

I think those are inspired by Artisans, Sunny Flight, Beast Makers (possibly Metalhead?) and Magic Crafters but I could see the Sunny Flight-based one being swapped with something from Peace Keepers or Dream Weavers for the sake of variety, even though a speedway would certainly fit a racing game.

I am also kinda hoping they didn’t reveal the Spyro Grand Prix’s content yet because they are planning to reveal something brand new for him which will end up in it, but I’m already very happy with everything shown today!

I've been thinking that Ice Cavern could make for a good track, since the level is already naturally circular. They could add some ramps, and make a shortcut where the key is for the chest, obviously they'd have to change it up a little.

Download required? Again? How many gigs for a visually downgraded port? I swear if the blu-ray discs for the PS5 are 150GB, there will be no excuse to have a giant patch for the rest of the game(s).

Once again, Like I addressed from the get-go, it's not a big deal. It's like a day one update, if you have no Wi-Fi, take it to a hotspot, it's portable for a reason. I'm just sick of people complaining about it...

But didn't Nintendo release 64GB Switch cartridges for publishers put their games in? If The Witcher 3 and all its DLC can be fitted into a single cartridge, then how could Spyro even need a giant patch? The graphics doesn't demand as much power like FFVIIR and it's being downscaled for the Switch. I'll be fine with the big patch if Activision could at least provide some clarity.

That is very interesting, this may add to my claim that the download might be an update. Most Switch titles have a Day-One update so this should be no surprise.

I'm probably one of the few people more looking forward to the PC version than the Switch version (I'd get the Switch version too if I had all of the money in the world, but it seems like the riskier investment when it comes to performance).

What's especially exciting is that on the PC version screenshots, it seems like it's more than just allowing the game to go to 4K and higher framerates. You can notice things like lighting and shading being far more detailed, some better textures, and even better particle effects for things like Spyro's flame breath.

Mods are another big reason I am excited for the PC launch but even without them, it's looking like a very good conversion. I have high hopes, since I was impressed with the PC version of N. Sane Trilogy as well.

Personally, I'm dreading the PC version because of the how many gigabytes for an uncompressed, 60fps, 4K trilogy of remastered games would take up my Alienware 13 and just how badly it might run.

Who knows? Maybe if I look to get a better computer in the future in 5-10 years time, I'll definitely buy this because I love Spyro. Seriously, even if Spyro doesn't make as much noise or impact as Metal Gear, Final Fantasy or anything else that's being made and remade, I got to see Spyro return to form and be obscure no more. With this, Devil May Cry 5 and Final Fantasy XV, I've gotten closure as a gamer and even if future instalments come and are better or worse, I've gotten everything between 2016 to 2019.

I'm happy.

I actually think your laptop could handle this game fine, the system requirements on Steam are actually quite low by today's standards.

[User Posted Image]

The press screenshots for the PC version are likely the game being pushed at max settings but I think it would be at least possible to get a "PS4 quality" experience on your laptop.

No, Sonic, I'm right there with you. I purchased the game on the PS4 but the motion blur drove me bananas. I'm considering getting the PC version for the uncapped framerate... and I don't even have a Steam account, so I'd be making one just for this. XP

That said, I'd love a mod that makes the flight levels not use realistic/inverted controls (i.e. up makes Spyro go up, down makes him go down). Still can't believe the games didn't have an option to do that. ;~;

WOW! This is the one by Iron Galaxy? They must've really learnt from their troubles with Arkham Knight. I hope the PS5 can play the PS4 version at 60fps or even have a PS5 version (especially if the discs have 150GB of space) because it'll be hard to go back to the console version after this.

Here is some gameplay footage of the Switch version.

Looks pretty good all things considered, honestly probably looks as good as it could on Switch. The lighting looks paired back and textures are murkier in some places, and obviously Switch resolutions are usually quite low on AAA third party ports. But it maintains the game's image quite well. It's not nearly as much a disparity as there was with the Switch port of Crash N. Sane Trilogy.

If they are, then they will most likely put out a patch on PS4 and Xbox One on the same day to bring them up to speed. They did something similar for Crash N. Sane Trilogy for the PS4 version, when the other versions came out.

A download WILL be required for Reignited Trilogy on Switch. The base game is 6.28 GB, and the game just got update date uploaded to Nintendo's servers that is 8.8 GB. The update data contains the game's pre-rendered cutscenes mostly (which there are a lot of, especially in Spyro 2).

So while the situation isn't quite the same as on PS4 and Xbox One since it seems most of the actual levels and what not are on the cartridge, it's still gonna be impossible to play the game by conventional means when Nintendo's Switch servers inevitably go down in a few years and you will need an internet connection to get into the game for the first time (but obviously not once you actually download it fully).

This information was discovered by NWPlayer who is a reputable Nintendo dataminer who discovered both the game and update data are actually already live on Nintendo's servers, so they downloaded it to their PC and started sifting through it.

Relevant thread:

Also here's the game's dashboard logo for those curious, pretty much the same as on PS4:

I hope the rumour of next-gen consoles having 150GB blu-ray discs are true so we can finally have the trilogy all in one disc with no patch needed.

There are different tiers of cartridge storage for Nintendo Switch games and the more storage it has, the more expensive it is to mass produce and put games on. The 3DS was the same.

Spyro is using the 8 GB cartridge size IIRC (with over 6 GB actually on the cartridge). So basically Activision is cheaping out and producing them on cartridges with less storage and putting the remainder of the game out in an update because they don't want to pay a little extra for better cartridges.

This is a myth, game card size has nothing to do with game price. Indie games (i.e studios who need the money more than AAA companies) are regularly published for €20-€30 on the same size cart as games that sell for €40-€60.

It's 100% just Activision being cheap and greedy. Remember, this is the same company that just shoved microtransactions into CTR today.

Conspiracy theory: TFB reads the smilie (tm) forums. Dark52 is actually the head of the company. This site is all a ploy created by Activision in order to understand the massive Spyro fanbase.

So I ended up with a major surplus of extra money and was already planning on making a graphics and performance analysis of Reignited Trilogy between PS4 Pro and PC. So I decided to pre-order the Switch version as well so I can throw that into my analysis too. Plus it would be nice to have a portable version, assuming all goes well with it.

Now I'm even more excited for these upcoming releases! smilie
