I really like the new series. The introduction of new characters and the gameplay was pretty good, liked it alot. Although I just wish that every cutscene had the very cool graphics used in the last cutscenes of the game.

From wat I have heard TEN (the eternal night) game will have 13 levels. Don't know if it's true but hopefully someone will be able to confirm it.

I think that Spyro 6, although short, is a major improvement over the old-school serie.

Don't get me wrong, the old serie is not bad... but it's not stellar either. I just think that it was too much of a collect-a-thon and that the scenario was more about (mostly) cheap jokes than actual plot and genuinely clever humor.

Although I think that Spyro 6 was too linear, a bit too short, and had a way too forgiving respawn system, the actual gameplay and plot were miles away from the older games.

If Spyro 7 (Eternal Night) up the length, manage to re-introduce longevity, and do away with the infinite lives and/or rework the respawn system, it will most likely classify as a truly excellent game.

Thus, so far, I am optimist toward the serie's future.

By branching paths or the ability to explore an enclosed environment (Spyro 2's Colossus comes to mind with this one), there isn't much of that, though there were some cool parts in Munitions Forge when the paths split and you get to explore certain enclosed areas.

Still in spite of the mentioned shortcomings, that game just got me back into the series again, and so it's no stranger that I'm intrigued to see what The Eternal Night will provide.

I liked the plot, i liked gary oldman, i liked the music, and the gameplay was okay. But the game was short, incredibly easy, and the boss fight at the end was a rip off. I'd say it was about a seven out of ten.

The music was very good, as were Oldman(he's an excellent actor) and the graphics, but the linear, short and easy combat based gameplay made the whole experience a little too repetitive, so I'd give it seven out of ten.

I saw that ages ago. Not even close to being the most impressive set of music vids I saw, but I thought the first half was better than the second.

Still I worked on a music video at youtube as well, but what's the point in discussing it when we're discussing what we thought of A New Beginning? I say we need a thread in the General forums about Youtube or something. >.>

Yeah.

Hey I was just thinking it would be cool if you could get the original series onto the PS2 (Kinda like what RedWelshDragon said) and they could also add extra features at the start menu when you've completed the game like 'The making of Spyro' or something like that (I like these documentary type things)

Fun, short, autosaving sucked. That's all I have to say. I want EN to come out though, it'll be fun.
Rexy Yellow Sparx Gems: 1313
#29 Posted: 23:20:53 02/08/2007
What was wrong with the autosaving? Are you referring to the ridiculously-too-generous recovery system (you die but start off again a few feet prior to then with the enemies already damaged) or a memory card corruption (there's none that I remember on the PS2 version)?
dark52 Spyro the Admin Gems: 13885
#30 Posted: 00:15:33 03/08/2007
I'm not certain what DDR_Maniac meant, but as far as I'm concerned, the auto-saving in Spyro: A Hero's Tail was a done a lot better (ignoring the part where people were accidentally turning their console off whilst it was still going on) than it was in The Legend of Spyro: A New Beginning.

In this game they have used an identical way of showing on screen that the game is saving (a memory card picture), but because it only saves infrequently they really should have gone for more of a large SAVING NOW!!! kinda thing rather than a small picture that you have to be looking for to notice.

It's that infrequent and hard to notice nature of the save system that caused me a problem; it's hard to recall when the last time it was that the game saved and who knows how long it'll be before you get to a point where the game designers have decided to grant you another one.

So it's a choice between the possibility of losing a lot of progress if you stop immediately or carrying on playing for an unknown length of time until the game decides that some random doorway is important enough. The second choice here also makes the already quite short game seem even shorter as you'll have less sessions until you reach the end of it.

More frequent and/or more obvious, I feel, is the way to go with automatic saving. There should also be a way of just pressing Start and saving it from there like in A Hero's Tail.

Personally though, I prefer games to leave saving completely down to me. eg Spyro the Dragon; you can save at the dragon points if you want to, but you don't have to and the game won't force a save on you at any point (and yes, the automatic saving in all subsequent games always slightly annoys me but it's not usually a big issue).

I find automatic saving in general to be a good thing in modern times; sometimes I could just play for hours and hours, and all of a sudden, a powercut could happen. If I didn't save much before then, then there we go - all the effort has gone to waste.

But I see what you mean with the save system for the game. Surely they could probably do something a little bit more obvious rather than using the same kind of save icons as Ty the Tasmanian Tiger (I think I'm the only person that noticed that, lol).

#32 Posted: 16:57:48 03/08/2007
Well there was big gaps between the autosaves, I'd play for half an hour, turn it off, and be back where I started. (Tall Plains) ¬¬
Pyro girl Yellow Sparx Gems: 1752
#33 Posted: 19:12:32 03/08/2007
Oh I hate the big gaps in between saving! I mind when I was pretty far in Tall Plains 'til Mum called me for tea and I had to start all over again! I also think it would be better if they have settings for the game to have autosave or not depending on the players choise coz some people prefer autosave and others prefer saving manually, like me. What do you think?

That would be a good idea. I'd probably choose autosave, then get annoyed with the memory card symbol, lol.

The manual says that that's something to do with inserting a different memory card and making the game save on there.
