Hello,

Do you think it's Considerate to Walk into a Restruant 5 mins before closing? Why or why not? As someone whose a cashier at a very busy restruant I have to say that it's kind of inconsiderate to do to the staff mainly because we have to wait for your ass to finish eating, and after you are done eating the staff has to close the whole place down, which can take about an hour.

TLsmilieR it's inconsiderate b/c it holds up the staff at night

NO NO NO NO! It's never considerate, it's stupid and disrespectful to the staff. Anything who thinks that it's ok, is wrong.

Hey is there anything you want me to bring for the rest of the week and if so it’s so cool that you can do something and just do it like that

I can see both sides, but I feel you have more right to say, since you're the one affected by it.

Unless you have no food at home and it's the nearest one you can get, no, it's disrespectful. I'd rather eat at home kr go somewhere that's not closing.

Since my wife is an AGM at Taco Bell, I can confirm that it IS NOT OKAY

Resaraunts, both sit-down and fast food, start breaking down their food line about a half hour beforehand so they can clock out maybe an hour after their shift ends. If its five minutes before closing, most of their food is tagged and put away for the next day, so they have to take it all back out and retag it just for the special snowflake that wanted the 5 dollar big box at 1:55 in the morning. Then, they have to stay even longer than their shift entails, to reclean the line that they just had to use for one thing.

The people who close the store never go home when their posted shift ends. They leave when everything is done. And usually, people don't give a damn and order huge meals just before closing.
Seeing my wife come home two hours late, physically sore and emotionally beat is not pleasant, and not ok.

It's fine of course but it's better to come in 1 minute before closing and order like 5 of everything

As being kitchen staff at my local greasepit, I can confirm that showing up at the last few minutes is a real dick move. ESPECIALLY if they're regulars of the place. They know better and don't need to wait so damn long to order.

fjskfldjl This has happened to me before when we were on the road and I felt kind of bad for coming into the restaurant so late so I just gave a bigger tip than usual to compensate.
It's probably pretty frustrating for the workers, I bet they're tired and just want to go home by then.

Set your closing time to be earlier.

If you're a dine in restaurant I get it but if this is takeout I don't see the problem. The closing time is listed as 9 PM. Not 8:45.

I've worked in several restaurants for my entire working life and having dealt with this exact situation I have to say it depends on the order. A sandwich for takeout or a single coffee or grab and go snack is fine, but I've had whole groups come in and order a full meal deal each. THAT is just the definition of self centered.

I'd say it's ok if you're only getting something small but other than that it's p rude

I would have thought that restaurants would have a 'last order' cut-off time.

the problem is the people who have control over when it closes probably go home notably earlier than the rest of the people who are there to get ****ed over, if they work in that specific restaurant at all

this is v true.

our manager leaves around the time that i come in for work (4:00-4:30) and he doesnt even know that a rush can happen between 9:30-10:00 and then another rush 10:30-close.

If someone walks in 5 minutes before close im going to be there until midnight-1:00 AM because i have to wait for them to pay me before i close the till and count the drawer. on top of this,i have to count credit card charges and file them. thats another 20-30 mins. then i have to count up discounts and voids and file them as well. Thats an extra 10 minutes.

so yes, its very inconsiderate to walk into a restaurant 5 mins before close. you not only hold up the cashier, you hold up the entire staff.
