well I remember Steven Hillenburg conceptualizing Spongebob later in the Rocko's Modern Life seasons, sometime in the 80's.

His first pilot was pitched in 1997.

hey was spongebob living on unemployment benefits before the pilot episode where he got his job? he was still living by himself. what job did he have before to afford a house? how does he afford a house now? what is this man's past

He has no specific age, but he is old enough to live by himself and have a job, and young enough to still have to go to boating school(Driving Lessons)

Gary - 28 (4 in cat years)
