It has nothing to do with race, though. It's just that Japan stuff is an acquired taste that not everyone is open to.

TMS is on another level of acquired taste. I like (watching) JRPGs and I can't stand the overall tone of that game. Probably because I read some nasty stuff about the idol industry(not sure it's real, but even if it isn't, it's crazy similar to things that actually happen to actors and singers) so I can't take any of that optimistic look seriously.

Japanese people who have an obsessive affinity for anime, computers, and JRPGs are labeled otaku, which is derogatory and practically a dirty word in the country to describe someone who has nothing better to do but to obsess over their media and not contribute to society or interact with other people.
