I've tried making sprites for RPG Maker 2003 in Paint, but they turn out bad.

I am so used to using MS Paint, so I don't want to switch software.
Any tips for using MS Paint for making tiles?

The way I make tiles:

I export a tileset
I open the tileset in MS Paint
I paint over the existing tiles

Learn some pixel art basics, recoloring is obviously going to look bad half the time. Colors aren't easily replaced, and pixel art has a lot about transitions.
