If I recall correctly, Frightful Fiesta had an orange Rift Engine base.
Why doesn't this Chopscotch have an orange base?

Pretty sure Frightful Fiesta's base's bones were still grey-white, though, right?

The Rift Engine changed because it was an accessory attached to the real base, but the base itself never changed; this year's bases are basically like the classic elemental ones so it makes sense for them to keep their colors.

Don't think variants have ever had bases modified specifically for them, unless we count the very special ones like Flockeds.

And Power Blues.

Scratch the "pretty much", they all have different Engine colors. As for the elemental part, 6 out of 12 (14 if including Dark DK+Bowser) has custom recolors.

Standard: Bronze Engines
Darks: Silver Engines
Legendaries: Gold Engines, dark blue Element symbols

Astroblast and Roller Brawl also had dark blue crystals/bones

Power Blue: White Engines, blue Element symbols+bases
Frightful: Black Engine, orange Undead symbol
Missile-Tow: Dark green Engine, white* Water symbol+base
Steel Plated: Green Engine, silver Earth symbol
Eggcited: Yellow Engine (looks like standard in render)
Birthday Bash: Sparkly silver Engine+base
*: Red symbol in render pictures, but white on physical figure. Water base is white regardless.

But prior to SuperChargers, Jolly Bumble Blast was the only Alt Deco with a custom base, IIRC, and that was just a small amount of white paint at the top, unlike the completely recolored Engines.

Eggcited Thrillipede's base is actually solid yellow, not gold like regular rift engines. So is base is also different, but that's hard to tell when looking at his render.

Let's say those are the exceptions which confirm the "rule" then; after all I do consider SuperChargers as a whole to be some kind of exception...
