What would happen in that situation

Seeing how the electoral college is the ones who put in the final vote (our vote merely goes to telling the college who to vote for on our behalf), I would guess that they just vote whoever they personally want.

Trash or ****?

Neither. I was interested in Sanders but now I'm going to look into third party candidates soon.

Agreed. I feel like I have a moral obligation to vote because so many people fought and died for that right, but I can't vote for someone I don't believe in either because what's the point of voting, then, if I don't like the outcome either way? So I'm looking into third party candidates to see if there's any that I can get behind. I know people say "well if you vote third party then you're just throwing your vote away!" but the way I see it, if you're voting for the lesser of the two evils rather than looking for a better outcome, then you're the one throwing your vote away.

I feel an obligation to vote because voter apathy is a serious problem that I've rallied about for the longest now (and I'm convinced voter apathy from the college age is a big reason why Sanders didn't win). But at the same time I don't want to vote for someone I don't believe in, or vote merely because "as long as it isn't Trump right?". Clinton would be a continuation of the norm that Obama brought in and that's not necessarily terrible, but it's not the direction I want to go in. I want to go further.

They say voting third party is throwing your vote away. But it's either I throw my vote away by voting third party or throw my vote away by not voting at all. I may as well speak up about what I want. Our voting system has created this two party system where third parties are near useless. But at least twice now third parties have come up and become one of the major parties in US politics (Whigs and Republicans) so it's not entirely hopeless.

That said, if you were a Sanders supporter and are now touting Johnson, you need to look more into it. The two of them are near opposites.

Here's the thing:

Trump's nothing but talk. He can't constitutionally do half the **** he says he's going to do, and he knows it. He's a smart man; he's saying those things to manipulate the ignorance of the mainstream conservatives, who up until now have been largely silent.

The same cannot be said for his supporters. Trump has exposed the filthy underbelly of American conservatism. I'm not saying all of his supporters are openly racist, sexist, and xenophobic, but the ones who are now have newfound courage and they're making some noise. Just imagine the societal changes that will take place if he wins.

I don't know about you, but I don't like to think about it.

While Trump is a horrible person, I like that he supports helping our own before we help others.
The sad truth of the matter is that we no longer have room for illegal immigrants to keep coming into the country, or refugees coming here legally until we solve the problems that American citizens are currently.

The fact of the matter is that, even if Trump can't enact certain policies, he still gets the ultimate control of our nuclear arsenal if elected. On top of that, I am well aware of his supporters making anti-Semitic remarks as I've witnessed it firsthand. His election would, essentially, condone such behavior, because people could rationalize by saying, "If the President can get away with saying 'X' and doing 'Y' I can damn well get away with doing 'Z.'"

That adds up to a Trump presidency making me fear for my life. So yes, I happen to feel like the metaphorical gun is being pointed at my head.

And if he is elected, it's a good thing I have my passport and live an hour from the Canadian border in case I have to flee. I don't exactly live in an upstanding neighborhood. <.<

Fair enough.

While I recognize that border laws are necessary for security, I think most concepts of their enforcement, such as deportation and armed border guards, come from a fundamental belief that people outside of your country are somehow less human than you.

In macrocosmic events Trump and his ideologies represent the ideas of fear and total inability to cope with constantly developed world. Now it is up to U.S. to decide if they are brave enough to fight for better tomorrow or degenerate with Trump's ideals. And I know that modern U.S: citizen is intelligent, responsible and brave enough to vote against Trump and maybe even Clinton. Just remember that individual integrity and strength manifested in common goal of meaning creates a society ready to make the best out of existence.

Pretty much both of these. If I had to pick between the two, I would go with Clinton. I don't really trust her and I would have preferred Bernie, but Trump and a lot of his supporters scare me. I've seen some Trump supporters say and do some really hateful stuff, quite a few of them family members. I know that isn't all Trump supporters, I met one today who was a decent human. But still.

My brother and father are voting for Gary Johnson, but I'm still a bit on the fence about him. He at least seems like a decent human unlike our two main candidates, but I'm not completely sure about some of his policies. So, I'm not really sure what I'm going to do yet.
