Pixar has made some pretty good movies and some pretty mediocre ones, too. I'm not even sure if O want to see Finding Dory... It just doesn't seem all that great to me. Comic Relief centered spin offs are never good. Whatever, I'll wait for the reviews.

In my opinion the only bad one is Cars 2. The others are at least very good (including the first Cars).

I don't expect Finding Dory to beat the same level as the first one, but definitely good.

But yeah, I've be become a pretty big fan of Pixar lately because their films are amazing and actually manage to touch my heart (something a lot of films can't do). The Good Dinosaur is my favourite so far. <3

I'm actually more excited for Coco than the majority of the sequels, just because it's a new movie, and, from Pixar, I prefer new movies, but I have good hopes for the sequels too.

And huh, unpopular opinion of yours, since The Good Dinosaur is one of the less popular ones, but it's great too.

Ah, I Love PIXAR! <3

I'm actually really looking forward to seeing Finding Dory, though I've only felt that way since I saw that latest trailer. Finding Nemo is probably one of my childhood favourites, as well as the more recent Brave and The Good Dinosaur (Which is underrated IMHO).

So, Finding Dory was released on the US. And, for my personal surprise, it has a 95% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Check it out here.

Now, with those reviews about it, I'm even more excited to see it.

Finding Dory was pretty mediocre, imo, especially compared to the original. It didn't have the emotional impact that FN had (there was one little moment near the end), and overall I wasn't really impressed.

As with the original, Marlin pretty much caused the problem, and he and Nemo (Nemo especially) were kinda just pointless side characters that didn't do much to the overall story.

Hank's character was interesting enough, and for a few comments I was hoping they'd go a little more indepth with his story (why he has seven legs, hates the ocean, and doesn't like being touched), but they glossed over that completely.

Baby Dory was cute, though.

Favourite Pixar movie will forever be The Incredibles! <333333

so i saw it

it's good. not mind-blowingly good, but good.

hank was interesting but he needs more backstory. the reasons behind his fear of the ocean, not wanting to be touched, and loss of limb is something i want to hear. for their "most complicated to design character ever", i wanna see more.

So, in news, some good new information:

  • There are no plans for future sequels besides the already announced ones.
  • Cars 3, Toy Story 4 and The Incredibles 2 will be the endings of their respective franchises.
  • As said before, Pete Docter, the director of Monsters Inc., Up and Inside Out, is directing a new movie for 2020.
  • All currently planned movies after The Incredibles 2 are new projects.
  • Jim Morris, Pixar's president, expressed interest in a Wall-e sequel, but it's not gonna happen for now.

Wait, it's been awhile since I've been on this topic, wow. >.<
I'm excited for the new films actually, and I'm glad that they'll be making entirely new movies after these sequels. BUT a Wall-E sequel would be amazing too.

I just want to ask though, why do people not like The Good Dinosaur? I thought that was actually pretty amazing.

It's not that they "didn't liked" it. It was more like "pretty good, but not Pixar level". When something made by Pixar is not "Pixar level", some people tend to get very disappointed, and this makes then don't like a movie that is pretty good, tough not "Pixar level".

I personally really liked The Good Dinosaur. As much as the plot itself is a bit formulaic (you know, guy lost, needs to find his home, boy and pet story, overcoming fears and so on) and the concept of evolved dinosaurs is not fully used, the characters are pretty good (the secondary ones are great), the relationship between Arlo and Spot is very well developed, the message is pretty good, and (as everyone knows), the background visuals are amazing (the soundtrack too). Maybe some people don't like the cartoon design of the characters, but I'm fine with it.

As much as it's not Pixar's greatest masterpiece, as they usually does, it's still a pretty good movie for me.

In good news, Pixar confirmed again the information that I posted before. Plus, there are two movies in a very early development phase, without a release date for now. As you can see, they're not the 2020 movies. and, they're original movies, not sequels.

Also, concept art of Coco:

I never liked Up. It taught kids the wrong message. The Labrador Retrievers can be the only heroes (and I never said I hated them) while some of my favorite dogs (German Shepherd, Doberman, Husky, etc.) are labeled "a bunch of jerks" and let me tell you something I was atracked by a Labrador when I was... I think 3. Dobermans are NOT villains and neither are German Shepherds or Huskies. And I hate I repeat hate dog sizists just because it's big doesn't mean it's dangerous....

I think that the species don't really have much in this. It's more about the corporal language of the human characters. The good one has a cute face and bright fur, the bad ones have dark fur and threatening faces.

The overall message of "UP" was too enjoy life and the many adventures it has to offer, big or small. It's in no way saying that any dog is inherently evil. The point of making the villain dogs a Doberman Pinscher , Rottweiler and Bull Dog is too give the audience a sense of intimidation. However, it was also to give the villains a comedic angle, what with giving Alpha, the aforementioned Doberman Pinscher, a squeaky voice. With that being said, if we're going to say that the message of Up is about the dogs (which have very little Screen Time compared to the actual protagonists) I think it's that dogs are all universally good, as they ended becoming pets of retirement home residents in the end credits. This is why I don't think they were being "sizist."

Pixar has a decent track record but I wasn't super thrilled with Finding Dory.

Same problems I had with Toy Story 3; it's the same movie as the previous one with forced emotional impact. There were some cute scenes in it though and it wasn't unwatchable, I was able to chill out and enjoy it. The animation was gorgeous. Also I wish they did more with Hank because he was pretty great, guessing he just has 7 limbs for the sake of the animators though.

^ (Finding Dory spoilers)

I agree, especially about Hank. I was really expecting them to delve more into his backstory through flashbacks or something like that because of the fact that he has only seven limbs and because he talked a lot about not wanting to go back to the ocean because of his memories. I was expecting some kind of traumatic event that he went through being revealed (probably the event that resulted in him being put in Quarantine in the first place?), but it wasn't (unless it was strongly hinted at and I totally missed it because that's definitely possible; I got that his touching phobia was because he knew he was going to ink, I think, but I'm surprised I got that tbh), and he changed his mind about going back to the ocean rather quickly. I do wish they did more with him because I like him a lot as a character.

Or maybe they did do that in an after-credits scene or something. I wouldn't know because I didn't know there was an after-credits scene smilie

And I watched Finding Dory. Here's my toughs (with spoilers):

I personally really liked it. It's a great movie in my opinion.

As the producers said, the story really felt as a missing piece from the first one. Things feel more "complete" after the movie ends.

The characters are still very good. Dory already had a great development on the first one, and it was even better now. Tough Marlin and Nemo didn't felt as important to the plot, they where still good characters. As you said, Hank might have needed more development. But, by the way he is, he is a great character. Same for the new Destiny and the Beluga guy (oh, I forgot the name). Aside from the fact that Dory's parents felt more like a plot point and the sea lions more like simplistic comic reliefs, booth of those are good characters too.

The comedy was another big point from me. Almost every joke made me laugh. The final comedic scene, where Hank and Dory run the truck to the sea with "What a Wonderful World" on the background, was one special scene that caught me.

I can say the same about the emotional punch. It felt strong and I really felt like the characters. A particular scene that caught my eyes was when Dory discovered that their parents are death, and then she starts to get confused and falls down to the ocean, to find then on the end. This scene was particularly strong for me.

The soundtrack, as the first one, is great. I can hear it without the movie and it would still be good.

The visuals are fantastic too. You can see the minimal details on the body of the characters and on the water. If it wasn't for the fact that the characters have a more cartoon style, I would think that it's a live action feature. The humans felt like Toy Story or Inside Out, and that's a good thing, so points. More points to the animation on Hank. Great one.

The post-credits scene is a nice bonus. I knew the fact that those characters would appear in the movie, and I was still quite surprised.

If I would give it a rating, I would say... 9.0-9.5/10. Aside from the few complaints I said before, I can only complain about the fact that Marlin and Nemo's side plot can be not as good as the main one for some, and that some scenes are very similar to the first one. Aside from that, I loved it.

Oh, and the short "Piper" is really good too. The visuals can be considered better than in the main movie. The few jokes are good and the characters and actions are really cute.

I hope that the Blu-Ray comes with a short showing about Hank's past. Inside Out and The Good Dinosaur came with shorts about the movies themselves. So I hope that Finding Dory does the same.

Now I don't know how I will watch "Ice Age: Collision Course" after a movie like this...

Hey we have news about Pixar's next movies:

Link for these and Disney news.

The Incredibles 2

Lasseter says there’s one character from the first film people keep asking about: Edna Mode. A fun video shows a slew of models and other designers talking about the talent of the amazing visionary Edna Mode (watch it above). Then, writer and director Brad Bird joins Lasseter to discuss the movie along with the voice of Edna… who is also Brad Bird.

Bird points out The Incredibles is a superhero film with family at its heart, and that aspect sets the world apart. “With this new film, we’re excited to jump back into that world,” Bird said. He said technology has advanced so that they can finally show the characters as they wanted to present them: “They’re still the same characters, but it’s like having a new car to drive. We’re able to do more.”

The Incredibles family is dealing with the human parts of being heroes. They’re still unaware that Jack-Jack has powers. While Bob may be taking more of a stay-at-home dad role, Elastigirl will be at the forefront of the action.

The original voice cast is returning, including Samuel L. Jackson as Frozone, with the exception of Dash. He’ll now be voiced by an older actor.

Before they wrapped The Incredibles 2 segment, Bird shared a rough clip. He set it up, saying: “On the original film, Teddy Newton had one of these ideas and it’s always been on my ‘want to do list.’ This idea is that bob has fallen asleep watching the television with Jack-Jack, and Jack-Jack hears something outside.” The clip shows that Jack-Jack ends up having an adorably hilarious encounter with a raccoon, and Bob discovers Jack-Jack has powers and that he has seemingly all of the powers.

Toy Story 4

Lasseter says Toy Story 4 is near and dear to his heart. Josh Cooley has been bumped from co-director to sole director, while Lasseter will take on an executive producer role. Cooley’s first lesson involves showing up at D23 Expo. He shared a video showing what he and his crew having been working on. We saw a look at a new character, Lulu, and some unfinished models of other toys, including a blue bunny.

Untitled Film

Pixar’s next original film is set in a as yet untitled suburban fantasy world. Dan Scanlon and Kori Rae are working together on the film, and Scanlon came onto stage to share details. He said, “This film is based on a personal story. When I was a year old, my father passed away. I don’t remember him and neigher does my brother, who was three at the time.”

Scanlon continued on to say they never heard their father’s voice, but a relative sent them an audiotape when they were teens. All their father said on the recording was, “Good-bye.” Scanlon said it was magic to his brother and him. He’s always wondered who is father was and the question became the blueprint for this movie. The story centers on two teenage brothers who lost their father. As teens, they head out on a quest into the fantasy world to spend one more day with the father.

As for the type of world in the animated film, it’s a modern fantasy world. Long ago there was real magic but it was hard to do and learn, so people lost interest. They created appliances to do what magic could: light bulbs, stoves, etc. Scanlon described the world as a mix of the fantastic and everyday. This world has no humans but fairies, trolls, and elves. Oh, and it has unicorns in droves. They’re the rodents of this world.
