How do I add friends with activate user name [CLOSED]

I am trying to help my girls get set up in the game. They don't do Facebook. I was trying to add one daughter to the other using activate game name and it does not find them. Can't find by email id either. Did I skip a step? They look setup to me

There is a privacy setting that has to be set to allow people to add you.
