Metal Gear (Japanese: メタルギア Hepburn: Metaru Gia?) is a series of action-adventure stealth video games, created by Hideo Kojima and developed and published by Konami. The first game, Metal Gear, was released in 1987 for the MSX2. The player takes control of a special forces operative Solid Snake who is assigned to find the titular superweapon "Metal Gear", a bipedal walking tank with the ability to launch nuclear weapons. Several sequels have been released for multiple consoles after requests from Konami to produce new Metal Gear games. The sequels expand the original game's plot adding new characters opposing and supporting Snake, while there have also been a few prequels exploring the origins of the Metal Gear and recurring characters. Various parts were inspired by Hollywood films with character's names, settings and artworks often referencing them.

It's best to play the games in order of release, however the original MSX games are skippable and you can wait until later to play them, they are pretty short anyway. You could buy the HD or Legacy collections to do this, but the HD collection does not include MGS1 so you may want to buy it separately, it's available on PC, PS1, Gamecube (as a remake, it's a little... weird compared to the original though) and is on PSN too. If you cannot play MGS1 for any reason then MGS2 is fine to start with, it's available on Xbox, PS2, Xbox 360 (through the HD collection), PS3 (through either Legacy or HD collections) and PC (however the PC port is a bet of a mess and will require lots of fan made patches to work on modern systems).

I would stay away from the metal gear wiki right now, people are posting what they believe (and might actually be, I'm just staying away from it) are the actual plot events and spoilers from Phantom Pain. I don't know if they're legitimate or not, but just to be safe stay away from there. I accidentally read what could be a gigantic spoiler for Phantom Pain on the Big Boss page, so just watch out.

Ah yes. I remember when I first got MGS4 seven years ago and was confused by everything. But then I played MGS1 twice (with both endings) and then struck luck with the MGS Legacy Collection at a GAME shop (minus the first two MSX2 games 'cus I screwed up) and now I'm up to speed and ready for MGSV properly.

My experience won't be the best with the PS3 version but story first. When I get a PS4, I'll buy the game again and have on a harder difficulty.

The wait is killing me! Even when it comes out, I mightn't get til Thursday if my aunt comes down with the game. CURSE YOU SPOILER-ABUSING INTERNET!

The series was going to end anyway, whether the whole incident between Konami and him occured.

Meanwhile I have at least 5 more games to go through before I can even think of touching this one...

I've finally finished the game's story. The story itself isn't too bad nor the spoilers... it's just the fact that the content that could've made it all complete was cut out rush it out the door. The only one to blame is Konami.

So Konami's apparently prepping a new MGS game...

Traded in this game so I have enough money to buy Fallout 4 Most likely going to buy again on Black Friday though
