People are gonna vote to have Scotland gain independence from the UK ;.;

I'm seriously ignorant about this, but does Scotland have the finances to be able to survive as an independent nation? No point on voting to separate if you can't make it alone.

I assumed Scotland was it's own country for a long time. Honestly, the American education system sucks.

It was its own country/kingdom. But a few centuries ago it merged with England to form the UK (Wales and Northern Ireland followed later on).

United Kingdom = England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland
Great Britain = England, Scotland, Wales

Americans are so terrible at geography it's unbelievable.

Personally as a Scot, I don't want Scottish independence to happen. Why break the United Kingdom when we've been successfully prospering for at least 300+ years? Plus, the leader of the Yes campaign(Alex Salmond, I think) still hasn't made proper plans to put into action if we do become independent. For example, what will we do with our currency when we split? He keeps insisting we are keeping the pound, yet it's been denied over and over again. Several Scottish firms in Scotland are already preparing for a financial crisis once Scotland becomes independent, and Alex Salmond also thinks he can make most of Scotland's money with our oil reserves. But that won't happen, and even if it did, what would happen if the oil ran out? Basically, Alex Salmond is trying to drive Scotland out of the UK as well as wreck our finances and several other things in Scotland that would be fine before independence. And it's looking like the future of Scotland after a Yes vote may be realised soon as I saw several of the polls for the referendum show Yes at 48% and No at 52%. It would be a shame if the country I live in became independent under Alex Salmond's command. And that's my opinion.

welp i missed the date for registering but im still supporting a yes vote, mostly against trident

well, we'll see today because I think the polls close after voting then we'll see if Scotland gains independence or stays with the UK
