Actually, this makes the Trap Shadow one look better. Not that this is uglier, but having the opposite halves gold and silver on each of the sneak figures makes them look better standing together (in my opinion anyway).

Curious who the third swapper with a variant will be. We've got a top and bottom silver, top bronze and bottom gold. We need a top gold and bottom bronze (plus it would line up with the 3 figures per variant scheme). Doomstone seems the obvious choice but who knows.

My guess is Spy Rise because he's a Wave 3 like Stink Bomb, he is popular among fans and since Trap Shadow and Stink Bomb are both Sneak Swappers, Spy Rise would fit the trio if you know what I mean. Then they could make chase variants for the two Earth Swappers, Doom Stone and Rubble Rouser, make them Stone variants or whatever they decide.

But European packaging doesn't matter anymore in deciding where things are from. They peg style packaging is mixed in US.

Actually it does right now. The UK peg style ones in the US have a sticker on the left side with additional warnings, while the ones released in Europe don't.

how do you find these! What is your strategy? Its a honest question, I have been searching for years and never found one variant in new mexico. Closest things I ever got are the exclusives per store smilie And the rarest thing I got was the frito lay fright rider.

Basically its all down to luck and location. I too, have been searching since the first game and have yet to come across a variant. There's a lot of factors working against you; not only are the chase numbers extremely low (perhaps even lower than most other retail action figures) but you also have to consider the popularity of the franchise (ie, a lot of people are out there looking, maybe ones that aren't even players but know they can resell the special figure), scalpers (aka people going there at store opening every day and grabbing the good stuff before most anyone else gets out) and also regular people (similar fans of the series who are also looking out for figures). That's not to mention that every single store probably wont get a box with a chase figure in it, AND you also have to consider employees taking the figure before it even hits the shelves or holding them for themselves to buy later or for their friends to come in and buy for them (or if the employee is a fan and wants it for themselves).

So basically, its all the luck of the draw. It helps in your favor if you play the game like that; having someone on the inside or going out early and checking. Regular average checking or popping through a store probably wont ever net you a chase figure. MAYBE back when the games first came out and not many people were in it, but after Christmas 2011 I would doubt just stumbling upon one. Although I mean it probably does and will happen lol

No it will be gold top and bronze bottom that way they can swap and match, since there is a silver bottom and a silver top and a bronze top and a gold bottom so to make it. It would make since to have a gold top and a bronze bottom. This would make since so you can have a bronze, silver and gold swapped.

Another update: the person that found them originally (in Belgium) found ANOTHER set of 2.. This variant seems like a store exclusive (or a wide release variant like Pumpkin Eye Brawl).

Ok I am excited to report that I found a bronze/silver Trap Shadow today at Toys R Us. Here is the story. I stopped by today to browse and pick up an extra Gil Grunt. As I walked in they were taking down the Lego store front and putting up Skylanders. There were 20+ boxes of Skylanders. The main person for Skylanders was there and he asked if I needed help and I said I would like to look through the boxes. He said they are all the same. I showed him a pic of the Stink Bomb variant and he said he has never seen those and thought I was crazy. He was polite, as was I, and I asked if I could kill my curiosity and open all the boxes to look.

We did and the third box we found one. His face was priceless and his demeanor changed as we looked through the rest of the boxes. No luck. I don't know how rare these are but I have had no luck with rare variants and I am glad that I found this.

Also it is an in game variant. It shows up Trap Shadow:Special and is level 5 with 2,100 gold.

The one I have is in US packaging not European.

Or they may decide you need to buy all three to get a full color swap, using one color from each variant.

You think that's bad? Someone found 3 Trap Shadow variants and people are paying $615 for them. TWO of them have the same price, multiple bids. Congrats to the sellers, but the buyers are a little loco.

These "should" settle to ~$200 or so if quantities expand a bit.

Sure makes me happy I never was sucked into collecting non in game variants. That would change for me if toy fair, employee, chase variants, etc.. ever became in game variants, however, I think it is pretty safe to assume that will never happen.

Congrats to the sellers at over 600?? Wow.

It is what it is I guess.

I just don't understand how people have 5 of this type--different figures--this early in their release. What am I missing?

I will say--congrats to fans/collectors who got one. smilie

@Matteomax, Unfortunately no, I didn't find them. A fellow hunter in the KC Metro that I've traded with/sold to several times found them & texted me to give me 1st option to trade for/buy one before he put it out for trade on his Instagram page. I passed.
